One toolkit to fit them all.

In the world of Red Bull wacky, crazy and awesome doesn’t even start to describe the annual Flugtag, Soapbox or Rapids events. Every year, all across the globe, a group of pilots, racers or sailors get together to build their own craft and then race each other off bridges, down raging rapids or across race tracks. Our job was the full digital activation of all events. To start we built a full digital toolkit which enabled countries to ‘build’ their own entirely customized website for their event – with our full support.

The Red Bull Soapbox website toolkit creation involved the programming of many customizable ‘modules’ within the website template which meant that different markets could decide which modules would show on their website and when. All Soapbox, Flugtag and Rapids pages went through four automatic ‘phases’, which could be configured in the initial set up on specific dates, the pre-application, application, event day and post-event phases. This meant that users were continuously surprised and engaged by the ever changing content and website. Every team that was chosen to participate in the event also had their own page which they could populate as they chose. The more effort the better the team page!

 

Approach of the Modules

There are a wide variety of modules that can be used on a Soapbox page. Red Bull country digital teams were given full access to a simplified backend system plus screencast video instructions for set-up, an instruction book for set-up and 24 hour LOOP support. Teams could set up their own page and customize it entirely on their own or LOOP could fill all content and configure the page. The idea was that the page would suit digital managers who wanted to configure their own modules, fill content and be in control of the page while also catering for marketing managers who wanted a simpler page set-up.

Red Bull Flugtag – the Global Hub

Each event not only has it’s own country page but also had a global hub where users who did not have a local event were given access to all events worldwide to be able to find their nearest one. No one should miss out!

The entire Flugtag, Soapbox and Rapids websites were, of course, 100% responsive – a must-have in today’s digital landscape! The visual design translates the mood of the event; fun, creative and a whole lot of wacky. The design itself was deliberately structured to give all information a dedicated space to keep everything organized and clear. Another key element of the design was to be able to ‘mix and match’ different modules, insert different languages and use the design on a global scale.

This project was not just about creating the global website system and toolkit for the Flugtag, Soapbox and Rapids events. We were also tasked with the full digital activation of events; from help with implementing live streams, alternative mobile solutions for events without readily available wifi, live scoring at events and other competitions. Basically the rule was – anything goes!

One of the most exciting parts of this project was the pure scale of the event. As the global lead agency for the full digital activation and website system of Flugtag, Soapbox and Rapids events our team got to work with each country contact on a personal basis. We offer continuous 24/7 support to every country team hosting an event and additional on-site support when requested. In addition an extensive instruction booklet, including video examples, was created to aid markets in their digital activations.
